What is Spiriva?
Spiriva is designed to treat patients who suffer from asthma. It is also used to prevent the symptoms of bronchospasms that are caused by chronic bronchitis, COPD, and emphysema. Lung diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease cause serious breathing problems if not treated and will continue to get worse over time.
This asthma inhaler is not to be used as rescue medicine and is not to be used if you are allergic to tiotropium, ipratropium, atronpine or any other similar drugs. There are three types of inhalers for Spiriva:
- Handihaler for COPD
- Respimat for COPD
- Respimat for asthma
Spiriva is manufactured by the company Boehringer Ingelheim and is classified as the drug class, Anticholinergic. It was first approved by the FDA in January 2004. It is also manufactured by Cipla under the trade name Tiova.
