What is Pylera?
Pylera is a combination medication that must be used in conjunction with an acid blocker such as any proton pump inhibitor medication. Pylera is used to treat stomach and intestinal ulcers that are caused by H. pylori. The medication comes in capsules that contain three medications: bismuth subcitrate, metronidazole, and tetracycline. Bismuth subcitrate is used to deal with an upset stomach, the other two medications are antibiotics that can deal with bacterial infections.
What are H. pylori?
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a type of bacteria that is responsible for many infections that occur in the stomach. A peptic ulcer (stomach ulcer) is a well-known malady but what people do not know is that it is not caused necessarily by stress or “spicy foods” alone, but rather H. pylori is often the culprit. According to this study, almost half of the world has an H. pylori infection—with 30% of North America accounting for that.
Interestingly, many people do not realize that they have an H. pylori infection. You can have an H. pylori infection and not experience any adverse effects. It is theorized that some people have more resistance to the harmful effects of H. pylori than others. The symptoms of an H. pylori infection are as follows:
- Stomach pain that gets worse when your stomach is empty
- Loss of appetite
- Nausea
- Frequent burping and bloating
- Weight loss that is unintentional or sudden
- Pylori Risk Factors
Risk factors for H. pylori are related to living conditions in your childhood—it is often contracted in childhood.
- Living in crowded conditions grants a higher risk of contraction.
- If you do not have a consistent supply of clean water, your chances of contraction are higher.
- If you lived in a country with poor infrastructure that resulted in unsanitary living conditions, your risk is higher.

The Rx Helper was founded based on the idea that many Americans are left high and dry by the ballooning costs of prescription medications. Even for those with insurance, these medications can be costly. Consider that many people are taking more than one prescription medication—especially as they age, so the costs per month can be cumulatively expensive. If you are underinsured or even uninsured, the Rx Helper can help you in getting access to prescription assistance programs. These programs are offered by manufacturers to give discounts on brand name prescription medications to qualifying individuals.
